Hey guys, So today's post is a little bit of a different post. I wanted to share with you about my nails, how my Crohn's affects them and what I do to keep them looking healthy. So for those of you that don't know, I suffer from a chronic condition called Crohn's Disease. This affects many things in my life including my nails. Because I am unable to absorb all the necessary vitamins and minerals through my intestines this can lead to problems in other area's of my body. My nails have slight clubbing to them, clubbing is a deformity of the nail, the severity of it can depend on what medical issues you have. I am quite lucky that I only have the first stage of clubbing and that is that the nail bed is softer than it should be. I also have ridges/ lines across my nails which are associated with many severe illnesses. Crohn's Disease is an auto immune disease and those who suffer from Crohn's can often have Psoriasis, which I do. This also affects my nails, this causes my nails to have splits and pitting of the nail, which can look slightly white. So with all of this affecting my nails, it's safe to say they are very weak, they don't ever reach a good length by themselves and break/split off a lot. I try to help my nails as much as I can with drinking milk as calcium is vital to nail growth. I don't bite my nails. The main thing that I do is have my nails done by a wonderful nail technologist and old school friend, named Charlie. I have acrylic overlay, which means that I have acrylic just over my natural nail to help give it strength and keep them all uniform. Then over the top of the acrylic I will then have Gel polish over the top to give it the finishing affect. If I didn't have my nails done, they wouldn't grow and would just keep breaking, it's not only to keep them healthy but also because it is my own treat each 3 weeks. A little bit of a pamper can really do you good. I am very lucky to have a nail technician that listens to what I want and also understands how poorly I am. This is my nails this week & I am completely in love with the colours! I have also included a slideshow of previous colours I have had. Until Next Time, Kayleigh ♥
