Hey Guys, I wanted to do a little post about hair. For those of you that know me, you know how much I love my hair and that I love to look after it and that it is one of my favourite features. However since I have been poorly with Crohns disease and been on a lot of medication it has affected my skin, nails and hair. Sometimes I can loose quite a lot of hair so I try to take my vitamins and minerals as well as really trying to look after my hair.
So here are some of my top tips and tricks to help grow your hair longer, stronger ,thicker and faster. 1. Deal carefully with wet hair. When your hair is wet it is fragile and can break easily when wet. When washing your hair only shampoo the roots and condition from mid length downwards and pay extra attention to the ends. Always squeeze as much water as you can from your hair before applying conditioner, as conditioners are formulated to seal in the moisture to your hair shaft, therefore for it to penetrate deeper it can't be dripping wet. Never apply conditioner to the scalp as this can make it excessively oily and create greasy hair. 2. Always comb out any tangles before washing your hair as water makes the hair weaker and easier to break if brushed when wet. 3.Always try to keep water cool, I don't mean freezing cold just room temperature or below. Hot water can strip hair of moisture where as cool water helps to seal the hair follicles and minimize damage. 4.Don't over apply heat to the hair. Heat further strips moisture from the hair. When you can try to let your hair air dry & if you really need to dry it at least let it dry naturally till its around 70-80% dry and then finish off with the hairdryer. Always try to use your hairdryer at least 6-8 inches away from the head and always have it pointing down so that your working with the hair follicle, this will minimize and frizz. 5.Avoid tight hair ties. Instead try and opt for either cloth ties or an invisibobble.. Don't pull your hair back tight as this will cause friction which in turn will cause breakage. 6.Don't have your hair up in bed. When your asleep you move around a lot and the elastic in your hair will catch strands of your hair, stretch them and cause them to snap. If for some reason you really need to have your hair up for bed then use a French braid , making sure it's loose to allow for some movement. 7.Avoid teasing your hair. Try not backcomb your hair as it causes major breakages and even more when combing it back out! 8.Brush Effectively. Brush your hair gently, and never when it's wet. Wait until it's nearly dry after washing and gently start to comb your hair from the bottom, making sure to hold it mid way up, this will help to minimise any pulling. Gently move upwards until you can brush through with ease. Don't over brush as this will spread oils from root down and make the hair become greasy. 9.Use of electrical appliances. Try to avoid the use of electrical appliances as much as you can. Straighteners and curlers can cause heat damage which will dry the hair out, leaving it looking dull and lifeless. Over use of these products can sometimes burn your hair, which can be difficult to repair. If you need to use them then don't forget to use protective products & keep usage to a minimum. 10.Avoid over washing. If you wash your hair to often it will remove the natural oils from your hair. Ideally you should be washing your hair no more than twice a week. You may need to train your hair by slowly stretching out the length of time between each wash to get it down to just twice a week, but don't forget you can use dry shampoo in between washes to try and help control any oil. 11.Regular cuts. Even if you are trying to grow your hair you need to be aiming to have your hair cut every 6 weeks to eliminate split ends. Once you have split ends they will keep traveling up the hair strand and you will loose any length you have managed to grow.So tiny trims will help to keep your hair growing healthily without loosing any real length. 12. When doing hair masks try to do them weekly, ideally leaving a mask on overnight every other week to really absorb into the hair. Before applying masks always try and squeeze as much water out as you can, even towel drying before applying the mask and leave it on as long as possible. 13.Always protect hair, just like skin your hair needs protecting. Exposure to excess sun, heat and dirt can cause the scalp to dry out and cause irritation. As well as damaging the hair. Always use protective treatments and opt for shade when you can. 14.Massage your scalp frequently to help stimulate red blood cells which in turn helps hair growth. You can do this with your shampoo so that it also gives the scalp a deep clean. 15.Try and maintain a healthy diet. Your diet an affect your hair and it growth. Keeping a balanced diet will help to promote hair to grow, thicker, faster and healthier. If you need to then add vitamins and minerals into your diet. I hope this gives you some new tips and tricks to try out, or to make sure you aren't damaging your hair instead of helping it grow. Until Next Time, Kayleigh ♡
